ORR Connect Privacy Policy

This policy explains how the ORR Connect app ("the app") from Off-Road Research, LLC (doing business as ORRSRCH, "we") handles information. The app is used to set up, update and manage ORRSRCH products installed in your vehicle, such as the ORR DID.
The short version
The app does not collect personal information and has no user accounts. It does not use advertising or analytics, and it does not track you. It talks to your ORRSRCH device over Bluetooth, and checks the ORRSRCH website for firmware updates.
Information the app uses
Bluetooth. The app uses Bluetooth to find and connect to your ORRSRCH device. It reads the device's status and your vehicle's VIN from the device, and it installs firmware updates. This information stays on your phone and your device, and it is not sent to ORRSRCH or anyone else.
Firmware updates. When your phone is online, the app checks fw.orrsrch.com for new firmware for your device and downloads it. It sends no information about you, your device or your vehicle: every phone downloads the same files, and the app decides on your phone whether an update is for your device. If ORRSRCH gives you a beta or support code, the app uses it only to find the matching files. Like any website, our hosting provider receives your phone’s IP address in order to deliver the files. We don’t use it to identify you.
Owner PIN. If you set an owner PIN, the app sends it to your device over an encrypted Bluetooth connection. The app does not store it, and the device keeps only a protected (hashed) form of it.
Location. Some older Android versions require location permission to scan for Bluetooth devices. The app asks for it only on those versions, uses it only for the Bluetooth scan, and never reads or stores your location.
Notifications. On Android, the app may show a notification while a firmware update is running, so the update can finish in the background.
When you contact us
If you ask ORRSRCH support for help, for example to recover a lost owner PIN, the app can prepare an email for you. You choose whether to send it. That email contains the recovery code shown in the app, your device name and your vehicle's VIN, and anything you add, such as proof of purchase. We use this information only to verify ownership and help you. We keep a record of recovery requests, for security and to support your device. We do not sell it or share it, except where the law requires us to.
Children
The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will post the new version here with a new effective date.
